In the grand continuum of what's important for our government to focus on and what's not, we must all prioritize the issues for ourselves and vote accordingly. For me, national security and the integrity of our borders are pretty high up there. Public funding for sub-par artists, "fixing" the best health care system in the world, trying to stagnate a climate that has been changing with no help from us for eons, and condemning a government that don't exist any more for excesses committed 92 years ago? Not so much.

Now I am not saying the Bush administration gets an A+ on national security and when the Iraq war started my feeling was that 2003 wasn't really the time. But here's an irrefutable fact: every terrorist plot to directly attack the United States since September 11th 2001 has failed, been abandoned, or been defeated. Bin Laden said it himself: they attacked England and Spain because the Bush administration's security measures made an attack on the US unfeasible. Add to this the fact that the Iraq war is turning in our favor at the moment and you have some pretty uncomfortable looking Democrats out there. There have been leftist politicians who have actually said publicly that good news in the war is bad for them. So they're rooting for us to lose? If they're so opposed to the war, they could end it by cutting funding with their majority... so why haven't they? Because American bodies bode well for a leftist in the White House in 2008, that's why. A terrorist attack would be good too. Maybe that's why they have opposed the security measures that Bin Laden himself has credited with keeping Americans safe. You know, I honestly think it would be great if gays could get married, but if that means voting in a bunch of assholes who'd like to see us lose a war and get attacked again, I'll have to pass.

That's right, I said I'm for gay marriage. You didn't think the right was a bunch of monolithic same-thinking automatons, did you? Actually, you probably did--left wingers are notorious for believing their own bullshit. Yes, it's true, we have in our camp a bunch of super-religious, moralizing, and oft-hypocritical people who would like to use legislation to impose their morals on the lives of certain Americans. I don't like that. You know what I like less? The super-DUPER-religious, bloodthirsty, cut throats who would like to use dull saws and homemade explosives to impose not only their morals, but their entire brutal version of a joyless religion on all Americans. And yet so many left wingers I know echo Rosie O'Donnell's assessment of the true threat to the American way of life: Christianity. The Christians want to stop the gay wedding, the Islamists want to behead the grooms and most of the guests. Do leftists ever stop to listen to themselves?

What's worst about the left is their cartoonish vilification of anyone who disagrees with them, whether it's taking one right winger's silly internet post about a sick kid as representative of the whole, or throwing the word "racist" around like Hillary gets a vote every time they say it. I think liberals' tendency to dismiss opposing viewpoints as "evil" stems from a severe discomfort with the idea that a well-intentioned person could possibly disagree with them. It's called intellectual insecurity. For example, I oppose illegal immigration, so therefore, I'm an anti-Hispanic racist, right? In fact, I'm part Hispanic, but that aside here's the real reason: illegal immigration puts tremendous strains on our health care, education and social welfare systems, costing us billions. It also devalues legal immigration and cheapens citizenship itself. My left wing wife is anti-illegal-immigration. Why? Because she actually works in a grade school and sees what illegal aliens are doing to the system. Funny what a little knowledge will do for a liberal. But whatever, I'm just a racist and so is she, right? There you go--nagging intellectual quandary dismissed. Leftists also like to accuse their opposition of being stupid. This from a group that couldn't find a candidate who got better grades in college than George W. Bush.

But seriously, the left wing wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that they want to see America lose a war, stop attacking the terrorists who attacked us, stop defending against the terrorists in the future, let the terrorists we've captured go, open our borders to unrestricted immigration, render American citizenship utterly meaningless by giving all the privileges and rights to non-citizens, and cripple our economy in any number of ways. It's these little things that tend to push me right of center, however sorry it makes me that Frank and Jim's wedding has to be postponed.
